According to an article published by Urbanize LA on January 18, 2024, the Centro Westlake project, a collaboration between Metro and the Walter J. Company, is a major mixed-use development planned above the Westlake/MacArthur Park Station in Los Angeles. Designed by SOM and Studio-MLA, the project includes a 44-story, 570-foot-tall tower and a 34-story, 448-foot-tall tower, alongside lower-rise buildings, totaling 668 residential units (234 income-restricted), a 300-room hotel, 115,000 square feet of office space, and 56,000 square feet of retail space, with 20% reserved for local Westlake businesses and 10% for minority-owned enterprises. The development features 75,000 square feet of open space, including a plaza for community vendors and events, a mobility hub, and a dog park, designed to enhance connectivity with MacArthur Park. Supported by Councilmember Eunisses Hernandez and local organizations, the project addresses housing needs with affordable units. It requires L.A. City Planning Department approval, with construction potentially starting in winter 2024 if approved by Metro and city officials.
